The Cabin in the Woods Review

"The Cabin in the Woods" is a Lovecraftian love/hate letter to horror films. It has some suspenseful moments, but for the most part, it's a fun romp through slasher flicks, giant monster movies, creature features and foreign horror films. "The Cabin in the Woods" is clever, snarky and constantly pokes fun at just about any horror convention or cliche you can think of, which makes it the best deconstruction of horror movies since "Scream." In fact, this movie invokes more stereotypes and horror tropes than even "Scream" was capable of doing. And for this reason, "The Cabin in the Woods" is freaking hilarious.

There are major SPOILERS AHEAD after the jump, so if you don't want this movie spoiled before you get a chance to see it, stop reading here.

It's been a while since "Silent Hill: Revelation 3D" finished post-production. Today director Michael J. Basset and IMDB announced that Open Road Films acquired U.S. distribution rights to "Silent Hill: Revelation 3D" and it will be released in theaters October 26, 2012-- just in time for Halloween!

Synopsis from IMDB:
Heather Mason and her father have been on the run, always one step ahead of dangerous forces that she doesn't fully understand. Now on the eve of her 18th birthday, plagued by horrific nightmares and the disappearance of her father, Heather discovers she's not who she thinks she is. The revelation leads her deeper into a demonic world that threatens to trap her forever.

Dead Island Book Review

When I picked up a copy of "Dead Island: The Book" by Mark Morris, I really didn't have high expectations that this novel would be anything noteworthy, since most novelizations of video games aren't very good. Thankfully, I was wrong.

Night of the Living Dead 3D Re-Animation

"Night of the Living Dead 3D: Re-Animation"  is the prequel to the cult classic "Night of the Living Dead 3D." It's about a pyrophobic mortician (he's afraid of fire, and hence, terrified of cremating a corpse) Gerald Tovar Jr., played by Andrew Divoff, inherits his family's mortuary. An accident exposes bodies that are being stored in the funeral home to toxic medical waste and it reanimates them and turns them into zombies. Oops.

The Top Two Funniest Blair Witch Parodies

While I was digging around the Internet doing research for my "Lovely Molly" post, I came across the top two funniest parodies of "The Blair Witch Project" that I've ever seen.  The first one is a Scooby Doo parody that I remember airing on Cartoon Network in 1999. The second, and by far the funnier of the two, is a Muppet parody called "The Bear Wit Project." I was laughing so hard by the time I got done watching it that I just had to share it.

This July 30th year marks the 13th Anniversary of The Blair Witch Project. "The Blair Witch Project" co-director Eduardo Sanchez has once again brought us a movie and sets the stage by creating a mockumentary about the movie to set the mood for his horror film.

New Resident Evil 6 Trailer!

The new "Resident Evil 6" Captivate trailer just came out and it's got me giddy with excitement! Looks like the game has a lot of familiar faces. Not only do we have Chris Redfield, Leon Kennedy and Ingrid Hunnigan, but also Sherry Birkin from "Resident Evil 2!" Oh yeah, and don't forget Wesker's clone "son" Jake Muller and the new C-Virus!

Top 6 Zombie Movie Cliches We Could Do Without

A cliche, like the monster that will just not die, is an idea or expression that has been so overused that it has lost its strength of emotional impact. A cliche can also be a character stereotype whose actions are predictable and superficial in nature. The zombie horror movie genre is chock full of animated rotting corpses, and with any over-saturated market, it has developed its own cliches that, like the zombie itself,  really needs to be shot and put out of its misery.

Dead Island 2 to be Released in 2012

This teaser picture for "Dead Island 2" from Dead Island's fan page showed up on my Facebook Page today. Last year in November there were rumors about a sequel to "Dead Island" being made when Techland and Deep Silver filed a trademark for the title "Dead World." Is this a hint of things to come?
