Here's the official synopsis of the character from Deep Silver:
He has trained himself - and become a master - in hand-to-hand combat. His career in the US Navy has not taken off as he originally had envisioned, so he spends his time as a cook on a military ship. Little does he know that soon he will have to bring his skills into practice when the ship nears the island of Palanai...
John Morgan is a self-trained master of unarmed martial arts who is a cook in the US Navy? OK. Sounds interesting. I'm going to assume that his ship crashes in the monsoon, but it could've been at port as well when the storm hit and the zombie outbreak occurred. I guess we'll see how he gets stuck on Palanai when the game comes out.
Morgan will be joining the original four survivors from Banoi and help them survive the zombie epidemic that has now spread to the island of Palanai. He is going to be the brawler of the group as he is a hand-to-hand combat expert. Yep, you will now get to punch zombies in the face with reckless abandon.
Deep Silver got the idea from a popular "Fist of the North Star" mod called "Fist of the Dead Star" that was made by a fan on the PC version of the game. The mod was so well received that the game developers decided to make a character with a combat focus that was strictly hand-to-hand, or in this case, fist-to-face. Heh.
Personally, I can't wait to see the zombie-punching skill tree and the new playing style of Morgan.
Another piece of information that has come our way is about the setting of "Dead Island: Riptide." One of the locations on the island of Palanai is Henderson, a resort port town that caters to rich tourists. The town is now flooding due to the torrential rains of a monsoon. This is the very same monsoon that was building up during the first game. This means that the streets of the town are flooding, the wind is screaming, and the rain is pelting down on the survivors. Talk about upping the ante. This is going to be great.
Fans should keep in mind though, that even with the addition of a new character, the co-op player mode will still only be four-player. Not that I actually played the co-op online mode for longer than 20 minutes at a time. I can never seem to get in a group of players that knows what they are doing... But I digress.
"Dead Island: Riptide" will be in stores April 23, 2013 and will be available on PS3, XBOX 360 and PC.
