The first picture of the new "The Walking Dead" season three character Michonne surfaced last week.
For those of you who aren't familiar with the character here's what you should know:
- Her name is pronounced Mee-shown.
- She is a no-nonsense, bad ass, katana wielding woman who won't take crap from anybody.
- She takes two walkers with her everywhere that have had their arms and jaws removed to use as zombie repellent.
If you remember from season one of "The Walking Dead," Rick and Glenn plastered zombie guts all over themselves to mask their scent when they had to walk through a huge herd of walkers in Atlanta. Basically, the premise is that walkers are attracted to the sounds and smell of people. However, if you smell and sound like a walker, they won't come after you. Michonne, being the smart woman that she is, uses this to her advantage. Thankfully her way isn't as gross as what Rick and Glenn did.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly about Michonne, Robert Kirkman said that "The essence of the character- her personality, her motives, everything that makes Michonne, Michonne- remains intact from the comics. But like a lot of things on the show, there will be little tweaks and differences here and there. We saw that her introduction is slightly different from how it was in the comic, and her interaction with Andrea is really going to be a really cool addition to the character that I think will get television viewers up to speed, and they’ll get to know her a lot faster than comic book readers did.”
Watch Michonne save Andrea's life!
Michonne's back-story appeared in Playboy's April 2012 issue. If you can't find a copy to buy, you can read it online for free here.
