"They will say that I have shed innocent blood. What's blood for if not for shedding? With my hook for a hand, I'll split you from your groin, to your gullet. I came for you."
This weeks free movie is "Candyman" starring Virginia Madsen and Tony Todd. The movie was based on "The Forbidden" by Clive Barker. Before there was "Urban Legend" there was "Candyman." And trust me, the killer in "Urban Legend" pales in comparison to the urban legend of "Candyman."
Helen is a grad student that is doing research for her doctoral thesis paper about urban legends. She learns about a local legend called Candyman; a murderous, vengeful ghost that appears in a mirror when his name is called five times. (Just like Bloody Mary, only he'll totally kill you dead. For reals.) During her investigation of the urban legend at the Cabrini-Green hosing project in Chicago, she discovers that the mythical, murderous Candyman is real. And she just summoned him.
Candyman has some of the most poetic lines I have ever heard in a horror film. Clive Barker's writing style definitely has an influence on the character's dialogue- especially those of Candman himself. Tony Todd was perfect for the role, and his deep resonant voice just makes the beautifully grotesque imagery all the more enticing, and terrifying.
