Free Movie Friday! Shutter (2004)

This week's free movie is from Thailand! "Shutter" was remade for American audiences but it just didn't have the growing sense of dread and foreboding that this one has. So many remakes nowadays seem to be so lifeless and lackluster... but that's a discussion for another post.

"Shutter" refers to the camera shutter and it refers to the movie's running theme of spirit photography. In "Shutter," you will find some really intensely scary parts where the suspense is just phenomenal. I really wasn't expecting a lot from this movie when I first watched it, but I have to be honest with you, once the plot picks up, it really gains momentum. Yes, it isn't dubbed, and yes you will have to watch subtitles, but, come on, broaden your horizons a bit and try this one out. Take a virtual vacation away from the snow and watch the horror unfold as a ghost from a man's sordid past gets her revenge.

A young photographer Thun and his girlfriend Jane discover mysterious shadows in their photographs after fleeing the scene of an accident. As they investigate the phenomenon, they find other photographs contain similar supernatural images and that Thun's best friends are being haunted as well. Jane discovers that her boyfriend has not told her everything and it soon becomes clear that you cannot escape your past.
